Every year, more than 85,000 athletes race at IRONMAN events around the world hoping to secure entry into the IRONMAN World Championship. Only 2,500 make it to the starting line on race day. One way to race at Kona is to qualify. Another way is to win an entry through the IRONMAN Foundation’s IRONMAN World Championship Annual Kona Auction, facilitated by eBay.

To honor the vision of IRONMAN co-founders, John and Judy Collins, IRONMAN remains committed to providing athletes of all abilities a means of entry to the world’s most challenging and prestigious one-day endurance event.
Athletes can still enter the race through Ironman’s Legacy Program, which rewards athletes who have raced 12 or more Ironmans with a Kona slot. (In 2012, Ironman took 100 slots from the main. As part of that mission, this year, 40 eligible applicants will be randomly selected to receive the opportunity to purchase a race entry to the 2019 IRONMAN World Championship triathlon (a “Kona. Kona Qualifying The “Big Three” German athletes validated their Automatic Qualifier slots at their “home” Ironman. Jan Frodeno and Sebastian Kienle also finished at the front of the race, while Patrick Lange had a less than stellar day (flat and stomach issues) to finish in 11th place. One more note: Anyone selected in the lottery must complete an IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3 event within one year of Kona to validate their slot. Keep in mind: The general lottery is a longshot. In the past, IRONMAN has disclosed that more than 7,000 athletes apply for the IRONMAN lottery each year. So about 98 percent won't get picked.
